| I have taken several ExCETs and have passed each one. I have not had to take the secondary or elementary tests because I am grandfathered. I have taken and passed reading, English, bilingual education, ESL and special education. I was certified in Spanish, history, and elementary education and had secondary certification before the ExCET was written. This is how I passed the ExCET. I took graduate courses in Bilingual eduction and ESL. I taught Bilingual Education on Emergency certification for 2 years. I read everything I could get my hands on about bilingual ed. I took the ESL ExCET. Both tests were easy. I challenged the English ExCET. Before I challenged it, I took 2 English classes (one freshman and one sophomore class) at a junior college. I passed the test. I had 33 hours in reading from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Most of the hours are at the graduate level. I passed the reading Test. It was not much different from the English test. I also took the special education test. I passed it. When people ask me how I passed the tests, I tell them that I read every college text from cover to cover when I took the courses. I also read the questions two or three time to make sure I know what the question is asking. I feel like many of the questions are common sense type questions. Most universities in Texas also publish study guides now. I did not have access to one when I took the ExCETs. I would recommend using them. |
