- Judging from the comments posted so far, Frank Codispoti's pithy statement, "Our goal should be to have students read critically, write critically, and discuss in every class they take" seems to have been very well received. Therefore, I want to take this opportunity to apprise everyone of a joint program involving faculty from the Department of English and Steen Library which has the specific purpose of furthering Dr. Codispoti's goal. Called "CLUE/LAL" for short, the program brings together two well-established and logically related ideas: teaching students information literacy in a world in which research skills are critical, and teaching writing as an invaluable analytical and expressive skill. At this time, we are trying to find a nucleus of faculty who are interested in this approach. We want to help them redesign curriculum to use research and writing more effectively. We too believe that the repeated exercise of these critical skills throughout a student's university career can make a significant difference in student outcomes, and that is certainly a great deal of what the ACE Project is about. Anyone interested in further information about this nascent program might wish to attend one of our informational meetings this fall or othewise get in touch with us. The English Department representative is Glenn Blalock, GBlalock@Titan.sfasu.edu. The library's representative is Karen Wielhorski, KarenW@sfalib.sfasu.edu. We appreciate the work of the ACE team and want to do our part to further ACE goals.
