- I enjoyed the presentation by Dr. Robert Zemsky. He named
- and described several phenomenon which I have observed
- in higher education in general and at SFA in particular.
- His classification of SFA as a "medallion" is correct
- though we are obviously not close to the top of the
- "pyramid". His recommendation that we figure out who or
- what we are and do a good job of "selling" it is critical
- to our future. Our recent enrollment declines are
- indicative of the problem we are up against and
- we are somewhat late in beginning to deal with it.
- His division of a university into a "core" and a
- "perimeter" was useful. I thought Bob Szafran's question
- using "periphery" and Zemsky's emphasis of "perimeter"
- illustrated another problem we are up against.
- What are the "core" and "perimeter" of SFASU?
- Can we use the two to strengthen each other?
- I disagree with most of Dr. John Dahmus' critique of the
- presentation and feel that Dr. Dahmus missed the points
- Dr. Zemsky was trying to make. Dr. Zemsky did bury his
- good ideas late in the presentation and stated them in
- convoluted terminology.
