Mary-Linda Merriam Armacost


Mary-Linda Merriam Armacost is currently a management Consultant forbusiness and non-profit sectors. She also is a facilitator and senior liaison for the University of Pennsylvania, Institute for Research in Higher Education, Pew Higher Education Roundtable, and is a senior fellow for the American Council on Education (ACE), Office of Women in Higher Education,

Prior to her current position she has held two college presidencies. From 1991 to 1993 she was president of Moore College of Art and Design (PA) and from 1981 to 1991 she was president of Wilson College (PA). In addition, she has served as assistant to the president at Boston University; and vice president for administration at Emerson College (MA). She was an ACE Fellow in the class of 1977-78. She has also held faculty and directors positions at other colleges and universities since 1970.

Among her numerous honors she received a Doctor of Laws, Wilsbn College, 1994; and a Doctor of Humanities, Carroll College, 1991. She was named, Outstanding Communicator, Women in Communications, Central Pennsylvania Chapter, 1984.

Armacost serves on a number of advisory boards including most recently, Armacost has presented or moderated speeches and workshops on topics related to women in education; leadership development programs; search and selection process; self-study and evaluation; and p1alltung.

Her most recent publications include, May Our Rivers Meet, (The Presbyterian Outlook, 1990); why in the World? (The Presbyterian Outlook, 1990); Growing as a Teacher, Teaching Communication: Theory, Research, and Methods (with Gerald Phillips, 1990); Wonien's College No Anachronism (The Harrisburg Patriot, 1989); and A Matter of Honor (Apprise Magazine, 1989).

Armacost earned a B.A. in Speech, a M.A. with a concentration in speech and language behavior, and a Ph.D. (concentration on interpersonal communication and small group process) from The Pennsylvania State University. She attended the Institute for Educational Management, Harvard University. She also has participated in professional development seminars at the Center for Creative Leadership and the Aspen Institute.
