II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Kinesiology 417. Analysis of Movement. Four semester hours, 3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab per week. The study of anatomical and mechanical factors that influence human movement.
III. COURSE ELIGIBILITY
Must have satisfactorily completed the following:
A. Twelve semester hours of Kinesiology classes
B. Biology 123 (Man and the Environment), or
Biology 238 (Human Anatomy and Physiology), or
Biology 327 (Human Physiology) for Biology majors
C. Physics 101 (General Physics) for Kinesiology majors
IV. COURSE RATIONALE
The purpose of Kinesiology 417: Analysis of Movement is to assist the student in acquiring the knowledges and skills necessary for scientifically analyzing and understanding factors affecting human movement.
V. COURSE OBJECTIVES
A. To be able to accurately describe a movement.
B. To be able to identify the anatomical and mechanical factors that most influence a performance.
C. To be able to evaluate and analyze a performance with the intent of influencing improvement.
VI. TEXTBOOK AND SUPPLIES
Required textbook, Manual of Structural Kinesiology, 12th edition, author: Thompson.
Recommended Supplies: A ruler which measures in centimeters and a protractor.
VII. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES
Lecture and lab grades will be computed into one grade and the same final grade will be counted for both lecture and lab.
Your grade for the course will be based on the following:
5 - 6 Tests = 85% (The final exam is optional)
Lab Work = 15%
VIII. ATTENDANCE
A. Regular and punctual attendance is expected at all classes and laboratory sections.
B. Excused absences:
1. Absence due to illness - must present a doctor's note.
2. Absence due to school sponsored trip - the instructor should be notified in advance of absence.
3. Absences for other reasons will be handled on an individual basis.
C. ALL EXCUSED ABSENCES MUST BE PROPERLY DOCUMENTED AND PRESENTED TO THE TEACHER IMMEDIATELY UPON RETURNING TO CLASS. OTHERWISE, THE ABSENCE WILL BE CONSIDERED UNEXCUSED.
IX. MAKE-UP OPPORTUNITIES
Tests, laboratory work, and class assignments can be made-up only with a documented excused absence. A missed lab must be made-up before the next scheduled test.
X. DRINK, FOOD AND TOBACCO IN THE CLASSROOM AND LABORATORY
Eating, drinking of beverages and the use of tobacco products are prohibited in the classroom and in the laboratory.
XI. DEPARTMENTAL POLICY ON APPROPRIATE DRESS FOR THE CLASSROOM AND LABORATORY
Caps or hats may not be worn in the classroom or in the laboratory.
